7 tips for a successful first dance on your wedding day:
1. Decide what you want to do. Do you want something simple and elegant? Do you want something fun and entertaining? Do you have a song in mind? If you are doing a fully choreographed song, start early but not too early because you don’t want to forget your moves before the big day! For a simple dance, you can learn closer to your wedding date.
2. Make time to practice regularly. Avoid large gaps between practices to avoid forgetting what you learn in your lessons.
3. Keep your dress in mind and practice in it if possible. Have your dress bustled up and if your dress is difficult to move around in, keep this in mind when you are designing your first dance.
4. Keep your shoes in mind – practice at least once in the shoes you will be wearing on the day.
5. Keep your dance floor in mind – is it big, is it small? You should choreograph your song according to the space you have. Also, practice on the floor beforehand if possible!
6. Do a quick rehearsal on the day if possible before you dance in front of your guests.
7. Smile and have fun! Remember, noone knows your choreography so if something goes wrong, just go with the flow and don’t show that you made a mistake. Stay connected to each other and just stay in the moment.
